My 7 AM Morning Routine in Portugal
I’m not an early bird. You won’t catch me up at 5 AM doing a hustle-style routine. Instead, I prefer waking with the sun — slowly, gently, and with intention.
Since starting my new training program, I now get up around 7 AM. It gives me just enough time to enjoy a calm start before heading to the gym or yoga class. A slow morning feels like such a luxury, and it’s something I’m deeply grateful for after years of strict, stressful early mornings when I ran my company in Denmark.
The first part of my day always includes Lara, my sweet toy poodle. She insists on cuddle time before anything else — and honestly, I wouldn’t have it any other way.
And then, of course, there’s coffee. I’m fasting in the mornings, but coffee without milk is allowed. That first sip of Bloom Coffee (our own brand!) is like a ritual. It sets the tone for the day.
Supplements, Shots & Getting Ready for the Gym
After coffee, I prepare what has quickly become a non-negotiable in my mornings: my health shot. It’s a mix of turmeric, ginger powder, cinnamon, black pepper, and apple cider vinegar. My health coach, Priscilla, recommended it to boost my metabolism and set my digestion in motion.
Alongside the shot, I take a few supplements that support my new training plan — creatine, ashwagandha, and glutamine. It sounds like a lot, but once it becomes part of the routine, it’s simple.
With that done, it’s time to get ready for the gym. On this particular morning, I head to a yoga class instead of weightlifting. Yoga always feels like the perfect mix of challenging and calming. I didn’t film the whole class, but even the snippets I captured reminded me how good it feels to move my body in this way.
Beach Walk & Morning Steps
After yoga, I still need to hit my step goal — 10,000 steps a day. So instead of going straight home, I change clothes and head for a walk along the seaside promenade.
It’s about 5 km from start to finish, which almost covers my daily step count. Even though the sun isn’t out, the air is warm, and the promenade is alive with people. Runners, families, and friends all gathering to start their mornings with movement.
Walking here feels both active and peaceful. I love how the rhythm of the waves slows me down, even while I’m moving. Some days my mornings are intense — heavy lifting and cardio sessions — but on mornings like this, it’s all about balance and steady energy.
Coming Home & Resetting with a Shower
Coming home after being out in the morning always feels like a reset. And of course, the best part is being greeted by Lara. She’s pure joy in a fluffy body — a reminder that life is better with unconditional love waiting at the door.
After that, a shower is non-negotiable. I’m usually sweaty from yoga or walking, and there’s nothing like hot water to feel like a new person. It’s not just about hygiene, it’s about shifting the energy — washing away the effort and stepping into the next part of the day fresh and clear.
A Quick & Healthy Pasta Lunch
With Joen heading out to the golf club, I prepare us a quick and nourishing lunch before the day really begins. One of my favorite go-to meals lately is lentil and bean pasta. It tastes just like regular pasta but has more protein and fewer carbs — perfect for supporting my training.
I keep it simple. I sauté onions, leafy greens, and spices, then toss in the pasta. For Joen, I top his plate with burrata and a drizzle of my homemade chili oil. It’s easy, fast, and still feels like a little treat.
Eating this way keeps me energized without feeling heavy. And once the plates are cleared, the morning feels complete. From coffee and yoga to the beach walk and a cozy lunch, this routine has become a rhythm that makes me feel grounded and healthy here in Portugal.
Final Thoughts
This 7 AM morning routine has truly changed the way I start my days. It’s not about perfection — some mornings are messier, some are more structured — but it’s the rhythm of it that grounds me. Coffee, movement, sunshine, and nourishing food. Those small rituals add up to something much bigger: a sense of balance and peace.
If you’re also on your own journey toward a healthier lifestyle, I’d love to hear about your routines. Do you swear by early mornings? Or are you, like me, someone who prefers to wake up with the sun?
